Great Social Studies and Math Lesson
      By bethb on 06/15/2012 - 14:10
    • I like how this lesson explores early number systems and the number systems of other cultures. I think this is a valuable resource for engaging students in making meaning of mathematics.

      Impressive

    • This site is a treasure trove for anyone interested in numbers. It is very comprehensive and functional. Teachers should be able to think of many challenges that make use of it. Here's one: The Greeks used their alphabet for both words and numerals. Joanna's name spelled in Greek letters has a total value of over 800, but mine, Robert, comes to over 1300. The applet does the translation and the math. Can you find a 6-letter name with a higher sum?
