Word walls

This discussion is part of a collection:CCSS Practice Standard 6

I think the best word walls are student-created and constantly evolving as new vocabulary arises. The class artists might create visuals that help connect the terms with their meanings. We need to remember to refer to this resource frequently and insist that children take advantage of it in their math talk and writing.

I'd be interested in hearing about how others develop and use word walls.

In my classroom we would create student dictionaries while updating the word wall. This way students would have their own representation and definition that they could refer to later to study or do homework. This also helped to keep everyone involved and engaged.
