This 46-page pdf document demonstrates the connections between the CCSS content standards and the mathematical practice standards. It is a compilation of research, standards from several states, instructional strategies, common misconceptions, and examples for each standard at the grade 1 level. It is intended to help teachers understand what each standard means in terms of what students must know and be able to do. Additional flip books are cataloged separately for grades K and 2-5.

This web page provides links to resources aligned to the CCSS that guide and support first grade mathematics teaching and learning. Tasks developed by the Mathematics Assessment Resource Service (MARS) and Problems of the Month, (POM home page is cataloged separately) developed by the Noyce Foundation are included. The activities were designed to measure students' ability to solve non-routine problems, explain and justify their solutions, and promote high level thinking skills. Resources are listed for specific grade 1 standards and are also organized by progression for an alternate search route.

This page provides examples of 1st Grade Measurement and Data activities aligned with the Common Core State Standards. A CCSS standard is stated and the possible activities are listed below and linked. All activities are suitable for use in Math Centers, small group, or whole class settings and are designed to elicit a range of responses and provide opportunities for students to communicate their reasoning and mathematical thinking. Instructions for each task are typed in large print and written in child-friendly language to enable students to work on activities independently after a brief introduction to the task. All files for 1st Grade Measurement and Data Activities listed are in PDF format.

This activity allows the user to practice reading an analog clock. Users can input times for the clock to display, or let the clock generate random times to read. The user can choose from 3 difficulty levels which set the random display to half hour, five minute, or one minute increments. A scoring feature allows the user to keep track of the number correct.

This interactive Java applet allows the user to practice finding elapsed time using analog or digital clocks. Using the "See" mode the user advances a clock from the beginning time to the ending time and the applet calculates the elapsed time. Using the "Guess" mode, the user must calculate the elapsed time between the given beginning and ending times. Three difficulty levels allow the user to practice with hour, five minute, or single minute increments. An optional scoring feature allows the user to keep track of number correct, though this feature is optional.

This interactive Java applet allows the user to practice calculating an ending time or a beginning time given the elapsed time using analog or digital clocks. Using the "See" mode the user advances (or rewinds) a clock from the given time using the elapsed time to find the ending (or beginning) time. Using the "Guess" mode, the user must calculate the ending (or beginning) time given the elapsed time. Three difficulty levels allow the user to practice with hour, five minute, or single minute increments. An optional scoring feature allows the user to keep track of number correct.

This iOS app allows learners to practice reading both a digital and analog clock. Learners can choose between either "Set the Time" or "Stop the Clock" games. In the first game players move the hour and/or minute hand to show the target time. In the second game players stop the clock on the exact minute and hour described. Two versions of the clock are available in the lite version of the app. Additional clocks and games are available with upgrade to full version ($) of the app.
